Lindsay attempting to contact defender's agent over new contract

Championship strugglers Preston want to open discussions with defender Billy Jones regarding a new contract. The right-back's existing deal expires at the end of the season and he could leave Deepdale on a free transfer next summer if new terms cannot be agreed. There are Championship relegation concerns surrounding Preston as the club sit bottom of the division and five points from safety. It has therefore been questioned whether players will want to commit their future, but Preston chairman Maurice Lindsay is eager to begin talks with Jones. Yet Lindsay told the Evening Post: "I know Billy Jones knows we want to keep him at Preston. "We are trying to get hold of his agent to sort something out, and we'll take things from there."
