Defender hoping to earn Bluebirds deal

Chris Riggott is hoping that a trial spell at Cardiff City will see him land a permanent contract. The centre-half has linked up with the Bluebirds following his release by Middlesbrough at the end of last season. His departure from the Riverside Stadium brought to an end a seven-year association with Boro. Unfortunately for Riggott, his time in the North East was blighted by injury and a departure became inevitable once reinforcements were drafted in above him.

Fitness

He is back to full fitness now, however, and feels he is still capable of doing a job at the business end of English football. The opportunity to impress at Cardiff was too good to turn down and, having spent some time training with the Welsh outfit, the 30-year-old turned out for their reserves in a 5-0 victory over Llanelli on Wednesday. Bluebirds boss Dave Jones was on hand to run an eye over Riggott and must decide whether he is deserving of a full-time deal. Cardiff have made a flying start to the season, but know strength in depth is vital to any side harbouring ambitions of mounting a promotion push.
