Defender delighted to secure move to the Keepmoat

Doncaster Rovers have finalised the signing of experienced defender Wayne Thomas on a 12-month contract. The 31-year-old has been on trial with Rovers after being released by Southampton at the end of last season. He impressed manager Sean O'Driscoll during pre-season games against West Brom and Sheffield Wednesday and has now earned a contract. On his switch to the Keepmoat, Thomas said: "I think they were interested in me last season and my mate from Southampton - Simon Gillett - said it's a great team to play in with the type of football Sean O'Driscoll plays. "I came up and trained with the lads plus played in the two home friendlies and knew I could play here. "It's been a bit on and off as to whether I would sign, but I am here now and looking forward to bringing my experience to the side." Thomas began his career with Torquay before moving to Stoke, where he featured 189 times in five years. He moved to Burnley in 2005 before returning to the South Coast with Southampton, spending three seasons there before being released at the end of the last campaign.
