Aberdeen manager Mark McGhee is unsure which SPL club Paul Hartley is joining this summer.
Hearts were thought to be leading for the chase for his signature only to pull out of the running this week.
Aberdeen are now the favourites to land the 33-year-old, but McGhee insists nothing has been finalised.
McGhee would not be surprised if Hearts resurrected the deal to re-sign the veteran from Bristol City after all.
"I'm not certain what's going on with Paul Hartley coming to join us," McGhee told the Daily Record.
"Reports on television say Hearts have dropped their interest in signing him.
"I don't know if that's the last word on the situation or not."
