Clarets midfielder sets his sights on an immediate top flight return

Graham Alexander insists there will be no relegation hangover at Burnley as they eye a Premier League return. The Clarets slipped out of the top flight in May, having lasted just one season among England's elite. They have, however, been able to retain the core of their squad, while fine-tuning those areas in need to strengthening. There is now a sense of optimism sweeping around Turf Moor, with a promotion push expected to be on the cards. Veteran midfielder Alexander sees no reason why the Clarets cannot position themselves among the frontrunners and is confident they will be there or thereabouts come the end of the campaign.

Positive

"The disappointment has gone now and we're confident and positive of the season ahead," he told the club's official website. "We are back in the Championship now which is a great league to play in but also a tough league. "There are enough players in the squad who want to win and want to get promoted again. "We're confident in ourselves, we've got a strong squad, a really competitive squad and there are a lot of players who can come into the first team which will be vital if we want to go back up."
