Scunthorpe striker keeping options open

Scunthorpe striker Paul Hayes is keeping his options open after being offered a new deal. It emerged earlier this week that the Iron were looking to keep the 26-year-old, whose contract expires in the summer. Hayes insists he remains happy with life at Glanford Park, while he almost agreed an extension at the start of the season. "We had talks last September and we were so close to reaching an agreement. It's disappointing we didn't," he told the Scunthorpe Telegraph. "I feel that during the past two seasons at United I have reached the pinnacle of my career." Despite enjoying his stint with Scunthorpe, Hayes does not know if he will still be at the club next season. "I have been really happy here at Scunthorpe in both spells I have had with the club but being a professional footballer is a short career and I have to look after the interests of my family," said Hayes, who has been linked with a move to Preston.
