Crystal Palace defender Lee Hills could be out of action for up to eight months after rupturing his anterior cruciate knee ligaments in Saturday's 1-1 draw at Derby.
The 20-year-old left-back suffered the injury in the first half following a collision with Rams midfielder Robbie Savage.
Hills hobbled off the pitch in clear discomfort and physio Nigel Cox later confirmed the full-back would require surgery.
"Unfortunately Lee has ruptured his ACL and will be out for around eight months," Cox told the Croydon Advertiser. "It was the twisting of the studs in the turf that caused the damage.
"It's a very common injury in football these days and we're sure Lee will come back as strong as ever. We use an excellent surgeon in London and currently we are just preparing Lee for his operation.
"He's in good shape, he will probably undergo surgery some time next week when the swelling has gone down."
