Scunthorpe take advantage of weekend off with team bonding trip

Sam Togwell is hoping a team break will boost Scunthorpe United's bid to preserve their Championship status at the end of the season. Scunthorpe are not in action this weekend due to Reading's involvement in the FA Cup and the players have gone away on a bonding session. A trip to relegation rivals Ipswich Town awaits the Iron a week on Saturday and Togwell feels the break will benefit Nigel Adkins' squad. Speaking to the Scunthorpe Telegraph he said: "It's a chance to regroup. We can sort out any niggling injuries, keep the fitness up and just have a rest really. "The season takes its effect on the body. I've noticed it personally after a couple of games, waking up with heavy legs. Every team is going to get a rest at some point, but hopefully we are doing it in the right way. "We can get a couple of weeks' training under our belt and get ready for the battle. The team spirit is brilliant and a chance to go away with the boys is good. "Although we can train, team bonding I think is the most important part. The goal at the end of the season is to stay up." The Iron are currently in 19th position, four points outside the bottom three, but they have played more games than all their rivals in the battle to avoid the drop.
