Coventry boss Chris Coleman hopes to complete the signing of Michael McIndoe before the visit of Ipswich.

Robins winger could join before Sunday's Championship opener

Coventry City manager Chris Coleman hopes to complete the signing of Bristol City winger Michael McIndoe before Sunday's game against Ipswich Town. The Robins have accepted an offer from Coventry for McIndoe, who was close to joining Sheffield United earlier in the summer before the deal collapsed. Coleman is now holding talks with McIndoe and aims to finalise a deal before Ipswich's visit to the Ricoh Arena, live on Sky Sports 2 & HD2. "I know that it has come out that we have agreed a fee with Bristol City, but we are yet to agree other things, so the deal is far from being done," Coleman told the Coventry Evening Telegraph. "I am hoping, praying and fingers are crossed because we owe it to the supporters and the boys we have got who have done a great job over the last six weeks. "They have got their heads down and got on with it. Last year they had all the speculation that we were signing this one and signing that one, and this year they have just got on with it."

Gilbert trial

The Sky Blues are also taking a look at former Sheffield Wednesday full-back Peter Gilbert, who came on as a substitute in Sunday's friendly with Everton. Coleman added: "He had his time at Sheffield Wednesday and is out of contract now. "Marcus (Hall) has had a little problem with an injury behind his knee and I wasn't sure if he would finish 90 minutes and I was right. But even if he was fit we need someone in that area to compete as a natural full-back. "Peter has come in and he was tired because he played 90 minutes for Southend on Friday night, but he acquitted himself very well and we are just having a look at each other, so there is nothing concrete in it."
