Posh supremo questions defender's Gulls rejection

Barry Fry has branded Peterborough defender Kieran Charnock 'nuts' for rejecting the chance to join League Two Torquay. Posh agreed a fee with the Gulls for the transfer-listed Charnock's services but the centre-back turned down the offer of a move to Plainmoor. Director of football Fry claims Charnock was offered a lucrative two-year deal and has warned he will not be part of manager Darren Ferguson's plans in the coming Championship season. "I've told Kieran that he's nuts to turn the move down. Torquay, who are not big payers as a rule, have really pushed the boat out for him in terms of money and length of contract," Fry told the Evening Telegraph.

Very disappointed

"He is perfectly entitled to stay here for another season, but he faces a year without any football. "He would be a free agent at the end of next season but who on earth is going to want him when he won't have played for a year. "I've tried to talk sense into him and so has the manager. "At the end of the day we can't force him out of the door, but I am very disappointed as we had negotiated a good deal for him and the club."
