Goalkeeper turns down offer of new deal

Adriano Basso has rejected the offer of a new deal at Bristol City and instead handed in a transfer request. The goalkeeper has made 161 appearances for the Robins since joining from Woking in 2005 and has earned rave reviews for his performances in recent seasons. Manager Gary Johnson had been keen to keep the Brazilian, who is under contract for one more season. However, Basso has decided he would like to embark on a new challenge and has asked for his name to be circulated to other clubs. "The club feels it has done everything possible to keep him, offering an excellent new deal," said a statement from the Robins. "Adriano has decided to reject it, and has subsequently submitted a written transfer request." Johnson has something of a goalkeeping crisis at present as Basso, Dean Gerken and Stephen Henderson are all injured. Peter Brezovan is currently on trial with Bristol City but Johnson has refused to confirm whether he will offer the Slovakian a deal.
