Rams boss optimistic of being reunited with full-back

Derby County boss Nigel Clough remains optimistic about signing Crewe Alexandra full-back John Brayford. Clough worked with Brayford at Burton Albion and sold the 21-year-old to League Two side Crewe at the end of last summer's transfer window. Crewe have rejected Clough's initial bid to take Brayford to Pride Park, but the Rams chief feels a deal will eventually be agreed between the two clubs. "It is ongoing," Clough told the Derby Evening Telegraph. "We put a bid in a while back and Crewe's valuation was way above ours. "It always seems to be the way, a bit of toing and froing, and I think eventually we will get an agreement suitable to all parties." Clough also confirmed that he is not giving up his pursuit of Shaun Barker, with Championship rivals Blackpool reluctant to sell the defender. "He remains one of our top targets and we are pursuing it at the moment," added Clough. "Centre-back is not an easy position to fill."
