Neal eager to take chance of first-team football

Shrewsbury Town have paid a nominal fee to sign goalkeeper Chris Neal from Preston North End. Neal has made just one senior appearance for Preston and had a loan spell at Shrewsbury during the 2006/07 season. He worked with Shrews boss Paul Simpson at Deepdale and has now agreed a three-year contract with the League Two club. The 23-year-old will compete with Glyn Garner and fellow new signing Andres Arestidou for a starting role and is looking forward to the chance to play regular first-team football. "I had a phone call from Paul Simpson a couple of weeks ago asking about my availability for the coming season," Neal told the club's official website. "I made it clear that I wanted to be playing games next season and that is the reason that I have signed for Shrewsbury. "I worked with the gaffer up in Preston and the same with Timmo (goalkeeping coach Dave Timmins) which was a good experience. "I came to Shrewsbury on loan a few seasons ago, so there are still a few familiar faces around here and it's good to be back."
