Nottingham Forest are set to seal the signing of Hibernian captain Rob Jones.
Colchester had been leading the chase for the former Grimsby defender, but they have seen numerous bids rejected by the Edinburgh outfit.
However, Forest boss Billy Davies has now moved to snatch Jones in a £600,000 deal.
"We have made a substantial cash offer for Rob and the two chief executives are now talking over the deal," Davies confirmed to the Daily Record.
"Rob is someone I have liked for a long time.
"He is a real leader, a fantastic centre-half who I believe will be a great addition to our squad."
