Defender joins on loan; Hart injury boost

Skysports.com can confirm Derby defender Jay McEveley is poised to join Preston on loan. Preston have moved to bring in McEveley on an emergency loan after losing Michael Hart to injury and Callum Davidson to suspension. Hart was stretchered off with a serious looking ankle injury during Preston's 3-1 defeat to local rivals Burnley, while Davidson was red carded for deliberate handball. Preston boss Allan Irvine has moved quickly to fill the void by bringing in former Blackburn defender McEveley. McEveley has dropped down the pecking order at Derby and Rams boss Paul Jewell is willing to loan him out. McEveley's agent Michael Drew has confirmed the player is set to join Preston on loan and that the player is keen to be playing some games. "Jay will be joining Preston on a month's loan," Drew told skysports.com. "They have a few problems at left-back and they have moved quickly to bring in Jay. "Jay is looking forward to it as he just wants to be playing regularly and he will see how it goes." McEveley could make his debut in Tuesday's clash with Swansea.

Boost

Meanwhile, Preston have been boosted by the news that Hart has not suffered a broken ankle. The Scot faces a spell on the sidelines as scans have shown he has sustained ligament damage. "It is good news that Michael hasn't broken his ankle, because that is what we feared," Irvine told the club's official website. "There looks to be some ligament damage there, although at this stage we are not sure what the extent of that is because it was fairly swollen after the game. "We will assess him further over the next day or so and see how quickly we can get him back."
