Championship leaders contest striker's dismissal

Wolves have confirmed they will be appealing against the red card received by Chris Iwelumo at Preston. The striker was dismissed for violent conduct after 76 minutes of Saturday's match at Deepdale. Iwelumo, who had scored a hat-trick in the 3-1 victory, was given his marching orders after clashing with Preston defender Sean St Ledger. Manager Mick McCarthy stated after the final whistle that he was hopeful the decision would be overturned. And Wolves have now announced they will be lodging an appeal for wrongful dismissal, with officials set to submit video evidence to the Football Association. Wolves will also send statements from both Iwelumo and St Ledger, who has leapt to the defence of his opponent. Both players went to see referee Martin Atkinsoin after the match to insist that any clash had been accidental. The appeal is set to be heard on Tuesday afternoon.
