Richard Wood will give '100 per cent effort' for Sheff Wed, despite handing in a transfer request.

Defender proud to be captain

Richard Wood insists he will give '100 per cent effort' for Sheffield Wednesday, despite handing in a transfer request. Owls boss Brian Laws recently revealed that the club had turned down a demand from the skipper to leave Hillsborough. The reasons for Wood's request have not been disclosed, but the defender is adamant he is fully committed to the Championship club. "I can understand why some fans may have been disappointed with regard to this news, but I hope they realise that I have always given 100 per cent effort for Sheffield Wednesday and will continue to do so throughout my career with the club," Wood told the club's official website.

Fully supportive

"The reasons I put in a transfer request satisfied the manager and I fully appreciate the decision made by the football club in turning down the request. I am fully supportive of Brian Laws and his management at Sheffield Wednesday. "Those media reports actually came out two weeks after I handed the request to the club and I am sure anybody who saw my last two performances in a Wednesday shirt will know that nothing has changed about the way I play. "I will continue to represent Sheffield Wednesday to the highest standards I can in every aspect of my role for the club. "Having been involved with the club since I was a young boy, I am hugely proud to be team captain and I am very grateful to Brian Laws for giving me this opportunity and for continuing to support me as skipper."
