Defender signs two-year deal after impressing on loan last season

Carlisle United have signed defender Richard Keogh for an undisclosed fee from Bristol City. Keogh has secured a permanent move to Brunton Park after making seven appearances on loan at the League One club last season. He was only on the fringes of Gary Johnson's plans at Ashton Gate, with his last first-team appearance for the Robins coming 12 months ago. The centre-half has accepted a two-year deal with Carlisle, with the option of a further season, much to manager John Ward's delight. "I'm absolutely delighted to have added Richard to the squad," Ward told the club's official website. "I think he will be an excellent signing for us and it is particularly good to sign a player we know, which means there won't be any bedding period." Ward had been considering a deal for a new defender after summer signing Josh Gowling was ruled out for at least a month with a broken nose.
