Wolves have handed a trial to former Manchester City defender Ben Thatcher.

Championship side run the rule over full-back

Wolves have handed a trial to former Manchester City defender Ben Thatcher. The 32-year-old is a free agent after being released by Charlton at the end of last season and has already turned down the opportunity to join Ipswich this summer. Mick McCarthy has already taken Republic of Ireland international Ian Harte on a trial basis as he searches for a new left-sided defender, and Thatcher was given 70 minutes in a behind-closed-doors friendly against Bolton on Wednesday. The Wolves boss confirmed that he is continuing with his efforts to bolster the numbers in his squad ahead of the new season and will make a decision on Thatcher in due course. "We will be taking a look at Ben in much the same way as have Ian Harte over the past few days," McCarthy told the club's official website.
