Keeper rejected chance to leave Ashton Gate
Chris Weale claims he turned down other offers in order to sign a new contract at Bristol City.
The goalkeeper made just five appearances for City last season as he provided the back-up to the club's No.1 Adriano Basso.
However, rather than leave Ashton Gate for regular football in the summer, Weale decided to stay to challenge Basso for a first-team spot.
"I did have offers from other clubs and I did have to think about it, but I wanted to give it another year here - I haven't given it a full year here being fully fit," Weale told the club's
official website.
Not a quitter
"I haven't achieved what I wanted to achieve, so I want to give it another year. Hopefully I will achieve it.
"I like a challenge, I need a challenge. I've set myself some goals, which I won't reveal, but obviously Adriano's favourite to start the new season in goal.
"I'll keep pushing Adriano all the way and when I get in hopefully I'll keep my place.
"This is the toughest battle I've had in football, but I want to keep that challenge up. I could have cut my losses, but I'm not a quitter."
