Ipswich target Angelos Charisteas claims he is staying at Nurnberg, but Jim Magilton wants talks.

Ipswich could miss out on deal for Greek striker

Angelos Charisteas claims he is staying at Nurnberg, although Jim Magilton still hopes to entice the Greek striker to Ipswich Town. Championship club Ipswich confirmed last week that they had spoken with Nurnberg regarding a deal for Charisteas. Nurnberg, who were relegated from the Bundesliga last season, have given permission for Ipswich to speak to the imposing forward and Magilton is keen to meet the 28-year-old. "We want to know if he is interested and if he is, fantastic, we will sit and have a chat, if not we move on to other targets," Magilton told the East Anglian Daily Times.

Quality player

"If we can sit round the table and entice him to join us then great because he is the sort of quality player that can help us." However, Charisteas is intending to stay at Nurnberg to help the club in their quest for an immediate return to the top flight. Charisteas told Bild: "I'll be back on Monday and will remain at the club. "My thoughts are 100 per cent with the club. Other clubs are interested in me, but it is a beautiful thing to help Nurnberg rise again."
