Southend United boss Steve Tilson has confirmed his interest in signing Richard Keogh from Bristol City.
Keogh made just one appearance for the Robins last season and spent loan spells with three different League One clubs.
He could now be allowed to leave Ashton Gate on a permanent basis and Tilson is hoping to take the 21-year-old to Southend.
"Richard is someone we have enquired about signing," Tilson told the Southend Echo.
"That's as far as it's gone so far and we're waiting for Bristol City to get back to us with more news.
"It's very early days, but he would be a good signing for us."
Despite turning out for Huddersfield Town, Carlisle United and Cheltenham Town last term, Keogh did not actually face Southend.
