Coventry deny bidding for Owls ace

Coventry City chairman Ray Ranson has denied The Sky Blues have bid for Sheffield Wednesday defender Richard Wood. The Midlands outfit have been linked with Wood as manager Chris Coleman looks to strengthen his squad which narrowly avoided relegation last season. Coventry had reportedly tabled a £1million bid for Sheffield Wednesday defender Wood, although this has been dismissed by Ranson. "We have made a number of inquiries for players but we have not made any bids yet," he told the Coventry Evening Telegraph. City were close to landing Wolves striker Freddy Eastwood last month before an issue with his existing Molineux contract halted the move. Ranson has hinted the club are still keen on the Wales international, but feels it might be best for them to press on with other targets. "The only way it would be resurrected is between Freddy and Wolves, but as far as we are concerned, we are moving on," he concluded.
