Crystal Palace boss Neil Warnock is close to admitting defeat in his attempts to keep Ben Watson at Selhurst Park.
Warnock and chairman Simon Jordan have pushed the boat out in offering Watson a lucrative new contract but the 22-year-old midfielder, who has a year left on his present deal and is a reported target for Queens Park Rangers, has indicated his future lies elsewhere.
"We've offered Ben the best contract we could offer anyone at the the club at this moment in time but I don't think he's going to accept it," Warnock told he club's official website.
"We'll speak to him again but I think he feels it might be time in his career to move on, which will be a disappointment for us but it's one of those things.
"We want players who are fully committed and Ben and his advisor might think the grass is greener elsewhere.
"I hope we can sort something out because it is a fabulous contract that the chairman has let me offer him, but if it's not to be it's not to be."
