Adriano Basso aims to help Bristol City into the Premier League to boost his 2010 World Cup prospects.

City keeper wants to play for England or Brazil

Adriano Basso is hoping to help Bristol City into the Premier League to boost his prospects of playing at the 2010 World Cup. The Brazilian-born goalkeeper has impressed for City this season and produced a sterling display in Saturday's 0-0 draw at Leicester City. With the Robins top of the Championship table, Basso is keen to secure the opportunity to play in the top flight next season. And the 32-year-old, who would also be eligible for England, aims to top that achievement by playing in the next World Cup in South Africa. "When I came to England it was difficult," said Basso in The Sun. "But I did not come here to be a loser.

Future's bright

"Brazilian keepers don't take the headlines, but I would like to change that. "I know the future is bright. I am 32 and looking forward to playing in the next World Cup. "You can achieve anything you want if you work properly. I want to play for England or Brazil. I have been here five years, so I can get an English passport. "My focus is to put Bristol City into the Premier League so my chance becomes more real. "People will pay more attention if we are in the Premier League. People in Brazil would see me, too."
