Defender ruptures Achilles in warm-up

Preston defender Liam Chilvers faces a lengthy spell on the sides after suffering a suspected ruptured Achilles tendon. Chilvers suffered the injury during the warm-up before Saturday's clash at Charlton and had to be replaced in the starting XI by Billy Jones. The injury rules Chilvers out of the rest of the season and North End boss Alan Irvine admitted it was a major blow for the player

Bad injury

"Nothing has been confirmed yet but it looks like a bad injury. We fear that he's ruptured his Achilles tendon, which is a real shame for the lad because he's been so steady and solid for us," Irvine told the club's official website. "He's been a big part of what we have done in recent months, and I'm really disappointed for the lad because he deserved to keep playing on through to the end of the season."
