Striker wants Premier League promotion

Stern John has set his sights on reaching the Premier League with Southampton. The striker recently moved to St Mary's from Sunderland where he had sampled promotion success last season. John, who fired four goals in 10 appearances towards the end of the campaign to help guide the Black Cats to the top of the Championship, is now keen for a repeat performance with Southampton. The Saints were relegated from the Premier League in 2005, but John believes they have the capabilities to return to the top flight.

Big history

"It was a fantastic feeling winning promotion with Sunderland last season and I would love to do the same again here," said John. "The Premier League is where everyone wants to play week in, week out and I really hope I can help Southampton get there. "It is a big club with a big history. They were in the Premier League for a long time and I hope I can make a difference for them to get back. "They had a slow start but did really well against Stoke and that can be the turning point for the season."
