Deepdale boss eyes injury replacements

Preston manager Paul Simpson has admitted he is in the market for a new striker. The Deepdale boss is determined to sign a new forward before Preston's first Championship fixture with West Brom at the weekend. Simpson has a selection problem ahead of the trip to The Hawthorns with a number of his main strikers struggling with injuries. Neil Mellor strained a buttock muscle in Preston's friendly with Blackburn on Saturday and is in a battle for match fitness, while Patrick Agyemang is expected to miss the first month of the campaign with the thigh injury he sustained in the recent pre-season meeting with Forest Green Rovers.

Injury woes

Simpson is concerned by the injury woes ahead of the new season and has revealed he is looking to bring in a new forward. "We have got to try and get somebody in," Smith told Preston's official website. "Neil Mellor has picked up an injury and Patrick Agyemang has got a problem. "We have had him scanned and he has got a tear on his rectus femoris which is at the top of his thigh. "There is a possibility that he may be out for three weeks so that is a real blow to us."
