Defender thrilled to be playing for Watford

Watford defender Adrian Mariappa has been rewarded with a contract extension to keep him at Vicarage Road until 2013. Mariappa has made 113 consecutive starts for the Hornets and is approaching 200 appearances for the club after coming through the youth system. He only signed a new deal until 2012 last April, but has now been given a 12-month extension by the Championship side. The 24-year-old is delighted to have signed a new contract and is determined to remain an integral part of Malky Mackay's plans. "I'm thrilled to be here and to secure another few years as well, and hopefully I can keep doing well for the team," Mariappa told the club's official website. "Watford is a great family club and they like to bring the young players through and nurture them. "I was very fortunate to be given a chance here and to be given the right tools as well to go and succeed as a professional footballer."
