Leeds United manager Simon Grayson is hoping to extend George McCartney's loan stay following talks with Steve Bruce.
The 29-year-old full-back is approaching the end of his deal at Elland Road after originally moving from Sunderland on a one-month contract in September.
Grayson has already managed to secure McCartney for an extra two days so that he can play in the Championship clash with Cardiff on Monday night, and the Whites boss will attempt to keep him beyond the Bluebirds game.
"I've been delighted with him," Grayson told the
Yorkshire Evening Post.
"He's shown the qualities that made him the Premier League player he is and worth the money he's gone for in the past.
"He'll get better with more time on the pitch.
"You always want to keep good players and I've spoken to Steve. If there's a deal to be done then he's somebody I'd like to keep."
McCartney has started five league games for Leeds since his arrival from the Black Cats after falling down the pecking order at the Stadium of Light.
The Northern Ireland international is ahead of Federico Bessone, Ben Parker and Aidan White for a staring place at left-back, although Parker is on the road back to full fitness.
Parker damaged an Achilles tendon in April but played 90 minutes in a friendly mach against Stoke on Wednesday.
Grayson added: "It was a big boost because I didn't expect him to play for 90 minutes but it's still too early for Ben. He needs more games."
