Harewood a happy Hammer

West Ham striker Marlon Harewood is enjoying life at Upton Park.

West Ham striker Marlon Harewood is enjoying life at Upton Park following the side's opening day win over Blackburn Rovers.

Alan Pardew's side have been tipped to make a swift return to The Championship, but West Ham stunned Rovers with a 3-1 success last Saturday.

Harewood says the mood in the camp is buoyant after the victory and that the players are using the critics' opinions as motivation.

"It's a very good place to be. I think the lads are buzzing after that win. We've just got to carry on from there," Harewood told Sky Sports News.

"Coming up from The Championship a lot of people were writing us off to go straight back down. A few of the lads try and root for themselves and prove the critics wrong."

Harewood recently penned a new contract at West Ham and the striker had no qualms about committing to The Hammers as he sees a rosy future with the East Londoners.

"They put a contract on the table that was good enough to sign, so I signed a week ago. We've got a great future with the young players we've got here and we'll do well next season.

"When it's all going bad it'll sink in that we're in The Premiership, but I think at the moment we're doing really well and we'll just have to take things as they come."
