No RBC deal for Hammer

RBC Roosendaal have decided not to offer Youssef Sofiane a contract.

RBC Roosendaal have decided not to offer French forward Youssef Sofiane a contract, but could move for Donny de Groot.

The West Ham man arrived in Roosendaal at the start of the week for a trial and made a decent first impression on coach Jan van Dijk.

However, van Dijk made it clear that he needs a striker who will add strength to his squad and he does not believe Sofiane fits the profile of player he is looking for.

The 20-year-old will now return to Upton Park but could be sent out on trial elsewhere as The Hammers are keen for him to accrue some experience.

Van Dijk is desperate to bring in a quality striker and could turn his attentions to Utrecht marksman de Groot.

De Groot has proven Eredivisie experience and would be a quality addition, but he is not yet fully fit after suffering a knee injury towards the end of last season

Van Dijk must weigh up whether it is worth taking a gamble on de Groot returning to fitness in time to make an impact.
