Iwelumo hopes for Scots call

Chris Iwelumo hopes his move to Charlton will help him break into the Scotland side.

Chris Iwelumo hopes his move to Charlton will help him break into the Scotland side.

The former Colchester striker joined The Addicks on a free transfer earlier this summer after turning down the offer of a new contract at Layer Road.

Iwelumo scored 18 goals last season and is hoping to have similar success at Charlton in the upcoming campaign.

The 28-year-old has set his sights on earning a call-up from Scotland boss Alex McLeish and is confident he can achieve his goal.

"Every player wants to play at the highest level," Iwelumo told Sky Sports News.

"At Colchester I never broke into the Scotland setup so hopefully if I can do well for Charlton then it will open a few more doors for me internationally.

"I know it's going to be a hard challenge because the Championship I'd probably say is one of the best leagues about for excitement, anyone can beat anyone.

"I'm definitely feeling very positive, feeling good, fit, so I'm just looking forward to the season."
