Addicks stay on Bolanos trail

Charlton could revive their bid for Christian Bolanos and loan the winger to Beerschot.

Charlton Athletic could revive their interest in Cristian Bolanos and loan the Costa Rica international to Germinal Beerschot.

Former head coach Iain Dowie had agreed a deal to sign the winger on loan from Deportivo Saprissa in pre-season, only for the player to be denied a work permit.

Dowie's replacement Les Reed has maintained an interest in Bolanos and could make another bid in the New Year.

Though Bolanos would still not be granted a work permit, he may then be loaned to Belgian side Germinal Beerschot, with whom Charlton have a co-operation agreement.

Reports in Belgium claim a deal is close and Reed admitted at a fans' forum last month that it was an avenue to explore.

"The situation is that he can't just get a work permit, but we're hoping that we will be able to do something with our partnership with Beerschot," said Reed.

"The problem was that he hadn't played enough international A games so if there's a period where we can loan him to a country that will give him a work permit, while he plays the international games he needs, then we would be able to eventually bring him in.

"But that's all under negotiation and there's a bit of chasing to be done."
