Valley move for Bothroyd

Charlton have moved quickly to replace new Rangers loan signing Francis Jeffers.

Charlton have moved quickly on transfer deadline day to replace new Rangers loan signing Francis Jeffers with the capture of Perugia striker Jay Bothroyd.

Bothroyd spent last season on loan with Premiership rivals Blackburn for whom he scored just once in 11 league appearances during an injury-hit spell.

The temperamental 23-year-old had hoped to make a permanent move to Ewood Park in the summer, however, manager Mark Hughes decided against that option.

A move to the Bundesliga had looked on the cards for Bothroyd but summer trials with Hertha Berlin and Mainz were both hampered by injury and the Islington born striker seemed set to remain in Italy.

Now back in London, where he started his career with Arsenal, Bothroyd will be hoping to resurrect a flagging career under Addicks manager Alan Curbishley.
