Young looks to World Cup

Luke Young is hoping that he can make the England World Cup squad.

Luke Young is hoping that his performance against Wales ensures he is in the team to face Northern Ireland on Wednesday.

Young put in a steady performance in the 1-0 win against Wales, and is now hoping to prove he is worth a place in next summer's World Cup squad - should England qualify.

"It was a qualifier so there is a bit more pressure on me - having only played 20 minutes for England before," said Young.

"I enjoyed the occasion and would like to get another chance.

"I would hope I am in the plans of the manager, and if I do get a chance, I will try to get in a good performance.

"At the start of the season, I just concentrated on club ambitions. Tried to do the best I could for Charlton and thought anything else was a bonus.

"But now I have pushed myself into the squad and I can try to think about [the World Cup] a bit now.

"The World Cup is my aim now I have broken into the squad and played in a qualifier."
