Blades want Stead stay

Sheffield United manager Bryan Robson has rubbished suggestions that Jon Stead will be moving to Hull. Robson has the task of selecting from eight first-team strikers in his squad and it had been rumoured that Stead, who joined the Blades from Sunderland in January for £750,000, was attracting the interest of Hull manager Phil Brown. However, Robson has insists that the striker will be going nowhere as the Bramall Lane boss bids to build a squad capable of regaining promotion to the Premier League. "No there's nothing in that," Robson told Blades World TV. "As far as I'm concerned my squad is more or less complete. There will only be players coming in rather than going out."

Strength

Meanwhile, Brown has neither confirmed nor denied the reports linking Hull with a possible move for Stead, but the Tigers boss admits he is looking to recruit. "All I will say is that we're looking for players who are capable of improving the squad," Brown told the Hull Daily Mail. "I'm not going to be drawn on who those players are. "We have been connected with almost every player out there this summer and sometimes that can weaken your position of strength. "We've identified which players we would like to be able to talk to and myself and the chairman are working tirelessly to bring players in."
