The summer signing from Crystal Palace has impressed at Bramall Lane this season and he is hoping he will not miss the busy festive period with his injury.
"It was an unfortunate injury I sustained at Watford and I will have a scan on it," Leigertwood told the club's official website
"I'm hoping to return for the Christmas fixtures and get back to the level I achieved before the knock, and then push on from there.
"It's been good here. I am really enjoying it and feel that I've been consistent after settling in."
