Lions in Lawrence hope

Millwall are aiming to fend off interest in experienced defender Matt Lawrence.

Millwall are aiming to fend off interest in experienced defender Matt Lawrence.

The Lions are enduring a period of upheaval, with chairman Jeff Burnige resigning just weeks after taking on the role.

Burnige's exit could be followed by that of Lawrence, who has caught the eye of fellow Championship sides Hull City and Sheffield United.

Hull have refuted reports they have lodged an offer in excess of £100,000 for the 31-year-old, while The Blades have also been credited with an interest.

Lawrence is just one of a number of targets for Hull, who are also chasing Bristol City stopper Danny Coles.

But Millwall are hoping to keep The Tigers and The Blades at bay and have Lawrence in their squad for next season.

Millwall's acting chairman Theo Paphitis said: "There is interest in Matt but we would like to keep him if we can."
