Latics close on Beckett

Ronnie Moore has told skysports.com Oldham are in talks with Luke Beckett.

Oldham boss Ronnie Moore has told skysports.com that the club are in talks with Luke Beckett over a permanent deal.

The prolific Sheffield United marksman has proven an astute piece of business since arriving at Boundary Park, notching five goals in his six starts thus far.

Oldham are keen to secure his services for the next two seasons, with talks already underway with the player's agent.

''We are talking with Luke's agent but it is still in the early stages,'' Moore told skysports.com.

''When he came on loan it was with a view to a permanent move but at the moment we can't confirm anything.

''He's speaking today with the owners but we've still got to see what kind of fee Sheffield United will be looking for.''

Another potential arrival in the summer is former favourite Paul Murray, who is currently plying his trade in Portugal after quitting Oldham last summer.

The player has conceded that he is keen on a return to both England and The Latics but at present, his wage demands are likely to prohibit any potential deal.

''Paul Murray is a player I'm definitely interested in but not at the wages currently being quoted by his agent,'' continued Moore.

''We'd like him here but the demands are ridiculous at the moment.

''If he can get them somewhere else then good luck to him.''

With regards to his own future, Moore stated that talks were continuing between himself and the club but that avoiding the drop was the immediate priority.

He concluded: ''The most important thing at the moment is that we reach 50 points and then we can push on.

''My agent is still in talks and we're looking to get something sorted.''
