Ibrox boss has not been approached by Latics regarding striker

Rangers manager Walter Smith insists he has not been approached by Wigan regarding Kris Boyd. Birmingham recently called off a move for the striker, who has scored 20 goals in all competitions this term, after he failed to agree personal terms at St Andrews. It is expected that Boyd will still move away from Ibrox during the January transfer window and Wigan have been persistently credited with an interest. However, Latics boss Steve Bruce recently rubbished the rumours and Smith is adamant he has yet to hear from the English Premier League outfit or any other new club.

Interest

"I know Steve Bruce well and his assistant Eric Black is pals with (Rangers first-team coach) Kenny McDowall, so I think we'd know if there was an interest there," Smith said in the Daily Record. "We have heard nothing from them or anyone else apart from Birmingham." And Smith claims he will have no problem naming Boyd in his squad for Tuesday's Scottish Cup tie against St Johnstone. "Nothing has changed as far as Kris is concerned," he added. "He is training with us as normal and he is still our player. "He will be in the squad unless something happens to change that situation."
