Striker suffers thigh injury in Wigan's final pre-season friendly

Steve Bruce is confident Emile Heskey will be fit for Wigan Athletic's opening game of the season. Heskey lasted just 19 minutes of Wigan's friendly win over Utrecht on Sunday before being replaced by Marlon King. The striker picked up a thigh injury in the game, but Bruce is not seriously worried about the extent of the problem. "Emile jarred his leg and felt a twinge in his thigh," said Bruce. "It looks like nothing more than a niggle, but I took him off as a precautionary measure. "I'm not overly concerned about it." Wigan start the new Premier League campaign with a trip to West Ham United on Saturday.
