Whites bolster defence in Marques' absence

Leeds United have bolstered their defence with the addition of Leicester City's Darren Kenton on loan. The 29-year-old has joined The Whites for a month and will provide valuable cover in Rui Marques' absence. Leeds are without the Angola international after he was surprisingly included in their African Cup of Nations squad. With Kenton out of favour at The Walkers Stadium, manager Dennis Wise has swooped for the experienced stopper to bolster his numbers. "He's deemed surplus to requirements at the moment at Leicester," assistant manager Bassett told the club's official website. "He's a Rui Marques-type defender and he provides us with important cover at this time."

Delight

Meanwhile, new signing Peter Sweeney has revealed his delight at joining Leeds from Stoke and is now looking forward to the challenge of breaking into Wise' team. "I'm delighted it's all done," said Sweeney. "This is a massive football club, and the fact that Dennis Wise is the manager made it even easier for me. "It's a Premiership club without a doubt and it'd be nice to be a part of getting back there, but first we have to get into the Championship. "I was at Elland Road on Saturday and saw the atmosphere. There's nothing better than playing in front of crowds like that. "I don't expect to jump straight into the side, but I want to get in and do whatever needs doing for the team."
