Hutchings: Baines is staying

Wigan boss Chris Hutchings is confident Leighton Baines will stay at the club.

Wigan boss Chris Hutchings is confident Leighton Baines will stay at the club.

The 22-year-old defender has attracted interest from a number of clubs after an impressive season for the Latics.

Newly-promoted Sunderland are amongst a number of clubs who are said to have expressed an interest in the England Under 21 star but Hutchings expects him to stay at the JJB Stadium.

"Baines has told me he is happy to stay and I am certainly not looking to sell him," Hutchings told the Manchester Evening News.

Hutchings went on to rule out a return to the club for West Brom striker Nathan Ellington, adding: "I am not sure about bringing players back for a second spell.

"We will not be pursuing this. But we have a number of options open to us."
