Latics extend lead at the top

WIGAN ATHLETIC have extended their lead at the top of Division Two by 11 points following a 2-1 victory over Colchester United at the JJB Stadium.

The Latics took the lead a minute before half-time through captain Jason de Vos and extended their advantage with 16 minutes to go through an Andy Liddell penalty.

Joe Keith did reply in the last minute for the away side with a spot-kick of his own but Paul Jewell's men made it 11 wins in a row in the league, as they cruise towards promotion.

Oldham Athletic lost ground on the league leaders after coming from a goal down to earn a 2-2 draw at Wycombe Wanderers.
