Fulham are hoping to appoint their new manager next week after drawing up a three-man shortlist.

Caretaker-manager Kit Symons, former West Brom head coach Steve Clarke and ex-Norwich manager Chris Hughton are the three names in the frame to succeed Felix Magath.

The shortlist has been compiled by Fulham owner Shahid Khan’s five-man “managerial search committee” which consists of Niall Quinn, Danny Murphy, Brian McBride, Huw Jennings and David Daly.

Hughton, 55, was made the odds-on favourite for the job at Craven Cottage by Sky Bet on Thursday morning after a flow of money for him.

The former Newcastle and Birmingham boss has been out of work since parting company with the Canaries towards the end of last season.

Symons has made clear his desire to take the job full-time after stepping up from the coaching staff to take temporary charge last month and he has guided the Cottagers to two wins in four Championship games since then.

The Welshman is set to remain at the helm for Saturday's home game against leaders Norwich.

Clarke, a former coach at Chelsea and Liverpool, was sacked by West Brom last season.

Billy McKinlay, who recently parted company with Watford after a brief spell in charge, had also been prominent in the betting, but the Scot now appears to be out of the running.
