League position an 'achievement' considering European schedule

Fulham boss Martin Jol has hailed the Fulham side that beat Sunderland 2-1 in the Premier League to mark their 55th game of the campaign. Clint Dempsey opened the scoring for Fulham on 12 minutes, only for Phil Bardsley to level on his 150th appearance with a rocket on 34 minutes. Sunderland could only keep it all square for 15 seconds as they allowed Moussa Dembele to run and hit a speculative shot that Michael Taylor could only deflect into his own net. But Fulham held out to end the season on a high with a win in their last home game of a successful campaign. "It was a great season, fantastic season and we ended on a very high note," Jol told Sky Sports. Fulham surpassed last season's points tally with the win and if they get all three points next week at Tottenham it will be Fulham's highest ever Premier League total.

Terrific

"I think that's quite an achievement especially as we've played in Europe. It would be a great achievement from this club to be in this position after a hell of a job in Europe. "Today was 54 or 55 games so I think it's great. "We've got terrific youngsters, good experienced players so the only thing now is to keep all these players together." Dempsey broke the deadlock for Fulham with a beautifully taken free-kick but it did not surprise his manager that he pulled such a fine effort out of the bag. "He's got it all in his locker. Nobody knew that he was capable of doing that then he scored against Bolton away," said Jol. "In the last couple of weeks we've thought let him take the free-kicks to see if he can do it again and he's done it again."
