Boss unfazed by latest draw and is confident results will improve

Fulham boss Mark Hughes is unconcerned by his side's lowly position and insists results will improve when his side overcome their injury woes. The Cottagers drew for the ninth time in the Premier League on Saturday following a 1-1 draw with Birmingham, in which Clint Dempsey rescued a point. Sebastian Larsson had handed the Blues a first-half lead, but Fulham could not take advantage of their second-half momentum, meaning they remain in 17th place. Fulham fans are growing impatient with the lack of wins but Hughes believes injuries to Bobby Zamora, Andrew Johnson and Moussa Dembele have not helped their cause. "Leading into the game we lost a lot of senior players in terms of the attacking threat so we had to make changes once again up front," Hughes told Sky Sports. "The disappointing thing from our point of view is that we conceded a goal. I felt it was against the run of play at that point but then we had to show belief to get back on level terms. "It was difficult for us because Birmingham were well organised with plenty of people behind the ball so, at one-nil to the good, they were very happy with the situation. "But we kept going, kept asking questions and eventually we got our reward for it. I was pleased, overall, with the majority of what we did today and we'll get better," he added.

Luck

Hughes is remaining calm despite his side loitering around the relegation zone and insists he is due some luck on the injury front and is confident he can steer his side towards the top 10. He said: "We just need to get a little bit of the rub of the green to get a couple of players back which will help us in the attacking sense and then we'll be fine. "We're not too pleased with where we find ourselves at the moment but, with the way the league table is this year, a couple of wins would get us into the top half rather than the bottom." Hughes was forced to withdraw Mexican full-back Carlos Salcido after just 24 minutes and the former Blackburn boss believes it gave Birmingham a helping hand in their 20th minute opener. "He felt his hamstring so we're going to have to check on that," said Hughes. "Unfortunately, he got injured just prior to the goal and that probably affected our ability to stop them scoring."
