Ipswich bid for Crewe star

Skysports.com understands that Ipswich Town have lodged a bid for Crewe star Nicky Maynard. The 21-year-old striker has been tracked by a host of clubs since scoring with his first touch on his league debut for Alex in 2006. Now after 35 goals in just 65 games, Maynard has become one of the most feared and highly regarded strikers in the lower leagues. But now Crewe are facing a huge battle to hang on to the Winsford-born marksman after Ipswich firmed up their interest with a bid. The bid from Town has not been disclosed but it is known to be over ₤1million. However, Town are not the only club following Maynard as several clubs from the Premier League also have a strong interest. Middlesbrough are long-term admirers of Maynard, whilst Fulham and newly promoted Hull are also considering making a move. Bristol City from the Championship are another interested party and it seems Maynard could have a number of options available to him in the coming weeks.
