Middlesbrough midfielder Grant Leadbitter has warned his team-mates they need to improve in front of goal if they are to keep their promotion hopes alive.

Saturday's 0-0 draw at Reading was the Teessiders' second in succession in the Sky Bet Championship after the stalemate at Blackburn on December 28, and left them in fourth place in the table, four points adrift of the top two.

Leadbitter told the club's official website: "I know people have used the word 'frustrating' to describe Saturday, but it was a bit stronger in the dressing room.

"We're not helping ourselves, chances are killing us. We have to put them away and make life easier for us.

"Don't get me wrong, I thought we played well and we created plenty, it was a good performance and we're getting good clean sheets.

"But we have a winning mentality and we look back on games like Blackpool at home, Blackburn home and away and think, 'There's six points that could have taken us to the top of the table'.

"Yes, goalkeepers are playing well, but maybe we're making bad misses. We have to make sure we put chances away."
